I have been wasting lots of DVD+R DL, please help... I have been backing up DVDs for DVD+R for years without any issue. Since I started to hate shinking, I purchased a Memorex 20X recorder. Life since then didn't go well. Here's what I do...

Disc used; Ridta, Memorex (seems to be the same manufacturer)
Rip using DVDDrcrypter or DVDFab HD Decrypter 4
Burn using ImgBurn using 4X or 2.4X, never used 8X as some has discouraged

I never have any error during burning but watching the movies is like gambling. Discs either can't be play or having squares on some parts of the movie and then stops. Not to mention when the DVD plays from the first layer going to the second. Any suggestions on the ImgBurn settings. Please advice this poor newbies in DVD+R DL burner.....

Ive had best luck with Verbatim DL discs. Everything else you are doing sounds correct. Try different media. If it works with Verbs, then it was the media giving you problems. Sometimes you see tiling when you have a large amount of compression going on, but the media being crappy could cause that also. Another thing to look at is to Defrag the HD you use to do your transcoding with.

Maybe it sounds strange but except Verbatim + R DL discs burned using 2.4X speed, Philips +R DL discs are not producing any malfunction to my stand alone DVD player.
I dont know if the burning machine has do do something, but when I switced from Nero to CloneDVD, I had no more problems.
In the past I was producing very expencive coasters (price per DL disc more than USD 5 / € 4).
