I don't know why, but even though I haven't ever installed mcafee on my vista computer, security center insists that it is installed and uses it. I have no security center icon to disable/uninstall it, it isn't in control panel, nor is there a "mcafee" folder in program files....how do I get rid of it and switch to windows firewall instead? Edit: couldn't figure out how to attach a image, so I uploaded one here.
You could go into registry to remove any registry entries also have you checked your program files in c drive you need to delete any files there mcafee also provides a clean up tool here is a linkhttp://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MPFCleanupTool.exe
try the tool first it might work, although i was working with a guy tonight having the same issue we ran the tool and it did not work. be prepared it maybe a little be more tricky than just running the tool **if the tool doesn't work look here*** http://forums.mcafeehelp.com/showthread.php?t=213589
