    Hello
Been burning for a while this afternoon using Nero 6.6.0.18 without any problems. On my last burn however I had a failure before it even started writing. I have put a DVD with data into the unit and the contents don't show up in MY COMPUTER. I have also tried to erase a DVDRW using Nero Vision Express 3 but even if I select Quick format or Slow format the ERASE button is greyed out and can't be selected. Does this indicate a DVD unit failure rather than software failure? I have tried cleaning the DVD unit lens using a DVD cleaner but no luck.
    Many thanks

If Windows Explorer cannot read the data on a disk, it lets Nero off the hook.

You can try un-installing the channel (Primary or Secondary Channel assuming it's an IDE device) that the burner is connected to and rebooting.
    Windows will re-install the drivers.

My computer > Properties > Hardware... etc.

    Many thanks for your reply.
I cleaned the unit again using another cleaning disk with some cleaning solution on the brushes (isoproponol?). It worked fine for a burn afterwards. It may have been a bit of ingrained dirt on the lens. If I have problems again I will try your advice and if that doesn't work will buy another unit.
    Thanks again
