    tasos1971,

    I still don't know what [bold]"Unlocking" [/bold] is -

    - if you are refering to seting the region in your new drives then go to control panel, systems, hardware, device manager, DVD/CD ROM drives, find your drive, double-click, choose DVD Region, and enter your region, click "OK" close out then reboot your PC.

    you say -
I've read your post several times and I still don't understand when you say - i want to unlock so i [bold]cant[/bold] write all type of dvdr

and I still don't know why you [bold]don't want[/bold] to write all types of DVD-R's, I would think you would [bold]WANT[/bold] to write DVD's

If you change your mind and decide you want to write DVD/CD's - if your drives are dual format you're fine - if your burners are not dual format, [bold]setting your region will not enable you to write "all type DVDr"[/bold].

If I'm understanding correctly, he wants a new firmware or hack to allow his Pioneer standalone -R recorder to write to both formats which I have no idea how to do.

tasos1971, no worries with the English we'll do our best :)

That upgrade is only for people who have standalone DVD's and wish to record a movie sometime in 2005.

I don't find anything that pertains to any DVD "Locking" -

You need to tell us what you are doing and what error messages you are recieving -

Hi tasos1971. Is this what you want?

Region code hack posted by rnrlifestyle, February 07 2004:

    More info:

From the look of things you'll need a special CD to upgrade the DVR-5100h to it's region free equivalent. The upgrade is then performed in a few steps:

    1. Put the CD in the tray but don't close it.
    2. Hold down 'function' and press 'DVD'
    3. The tray will close and 'LOAD' is displayed
    4. Remove the CD when the tray ejects
    5. 'DOWNLOAD-1' is displayed (then 'DOWNLOAD-2' and then 'DOWNLOAD-3').
    6. The tray will close again and the DVR will turn itself off. All done.

This region hack will have the DVR automatically select the appropriate region.

I know a lot of you will be wanting a copy of the 'file' that's on the CD. However the CD-image is close to 200 megs large which (of course) makes it impossible to e-mail it.

I have the CD but have yet to try it since I still haven't decided whether to hack such an expensive DVR and thereby possibly void the 2 year warranty.

I found the information at www.dvdrhelp.com under dvdplayers. I'm not the one with the special CD, its from the post at that site.

    Jerry,

That sounds like what he was asking for but how can it [bold]write[/bold] all kinds of DVD/CD's ?

Also I'm wondering - since this CD is for sale, don't we have to be careful not to get in the middle ? Wouldn't it have been better to link him to the site ?

    What are your thoughts ?

Hi Pete, The only hack I read about for this unit is the one I posted here. It didn't really say if it helped the record part or not. You can't always read between the lines.

As far as the special CD goes, it seems to be a dealer service type TOOL and I guess it can be purchased. I don't see a problem just listing the information. I got it all from a standard search. That unit must be a heck of a unit at $400 to $500 bucks. Later buddy

I saw the unit price as $899.00 per and the CD listed as $30.00 (Euros) ea -

I saw where you got your info - I mis-understood your post and thought you had the CD - I see where that was part of their info :))

    No Worries :D
