Unlocked phone? What does it mean?

Okay, I've been going through ebay to buy a phone. It says the phone is unlocked. Does that mean it will work with any american cell phone company such as sprint, cingular and T-mobile?

 

Yes, Unlocked means that it will take any SIM card for any network....

Does Triband mean the same thing???? i'm looking at a Samsung D500 and it says D500 World phone Triband. Will Cingular and other phone service provider work on this?

 

No... Not sure what triband fully is though? Somthing to do with the signaling on the phone... But dont worry the D500 should work on ANY network when its unlocked : )
