    I've been having a problem with Nero lately. A friend and I were working on a project together and he was using a Lite-On CD-RW to transfer the data to me. I'm recently trying to format the disc to reuse it. However, I continue to get a Target error. I have already upgraded to Nero 6.6 from 5.0 and have also tried the WNASPI32.DLL download from Nero's site.

    Here is the NeroHistory.log file:

    ps - I can read the disc fine and can use K-Hypermedia CD-RW disc which are 1x,2x,4x. The Lite-On disc says its 4x~12x. Any suggestions?

    I would think this is your problem. Your disc aren't big enough according to that.

    True, but that was a different file I was trying to compress and fit on a disc. But the problem that I'm having now is formating/erasing a LiteOn CD-RW to re-use it. But the log file doesn't seem to keep track of that error. I've tried Quick erase, Full Format and even the Windows XP version of Erasing the disc. Would it matter what program my friend used to burn the information on the disc to start?

    LiteOn disc: 4x~12x 80min/700mb

    The last log file in C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero, is the most recent.

    Yup. its marked CD-RW on the disc and the LITEON right above it. I just tried to erase the disc again and the log file hasn't changed by the modified date.

    Could the problem possible be if he used a differnt program to burn the information?

    @circus02 hi :)
    i'm a little confused. i take it that the disc in question has nothing to do with the above log?
    if that is the case have you tried to erase the said disc with DVD Decrypter ?

    @cirus02, friend you need to turn the DMA on. That is a typical problem area. I believe one of the guys at AD has a guide in helping to turn it on.

    Can Decrypter erase a CD-RW?
    Have you tried the XP 'Erase this CD-RW' feature, by opening the drive?

    @gurnard
    Son-of-a gun,it can!
    Thank you for that tip!
    I find that cd-r/(w) operation is very erratic as regards copying files (xp drag and drop) or erasing.
    The recording feature seems to be permanently turned off on my machine and so I have to keep turning it on to access the drives, (only with drag and drop).
    Perhaps the XP feature is at odds with the other burning software?

    I recently found that 'CloneCd' can erase these discs also, but only for the trial period grrr.

    I already tried to erase the cd with the XP progam. I then disabled the setting allow XP to write files to disc and it still gives the error. Also, I have used a different brand of CD-RW and they work fine. I will try with the DMA enabled and I'll look for Decrypter if it doesn't work. I'll let you know how it works.

    The log file for nero does not keep track of this error. I don't know why.

    These are the programs I've tried to erase the disc:
    Nero 5.5, then upgrded to 6.6 = Error
    XP 'Erase this disc' = Error
    CloneCD Ver??(find out later)Full = Error
    Later diabled the 'Write to disc' in XP options and repeated the options.

    Well, tenabling the DMA didn't help. But the DVD Decrypter did reveal somethign interesting. After it failed to erase the disc, it displayed an error, noted at the bottom of that error it state "Writer protected". Appearently my friend lock the disc somehow with what ever program he used to burn it.
