OK, sorry if today I'm the asker, but this issue made me search the net for hours without finding any answer. I'm starting using Vobsub + TMPGenc for adding permanently subtitles to a movie. What I found is that in TMPGenc evarything goes OK (AVI --> MPG or MPG -> MPG) if I DON'T HAVE a subtitle (e.g. movie.srt for a movie.AVI file to convert). If I have a subtitle, TMPGenc cannot load audio (the 'Audio input' line is blank and if I try to force TMPGenc to load the AVI pushing the 'browse' button near the 'audio input' line an error message appears 'the file movie.AVI is unsupported). Since this effect appears only when encoding subtitles, it seems the trouble comes due to the presence of the Vubsub via the DirectShow media filter. In effect, if i extract a WAV file from movie.AVI or if I copy movie.AVI to movie2.AVI and I load this file as 'audio input' everything goes fine. Did anyone find a solution for this issue? This is only a slight noise (extracting "audio.WAV" from "movie.AVI" is a loss of just few minutes), but I was wondering if this filter issue can be solved...
Sounds like a VFAPI priority thing. http://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/153058.php Unlike in the guide, my top 3 settings are DirectShow 2 Avisynth script reader 2 Wave File Reader 1 the rest are 0 or lower I've been converting .avi to dvd with subtitles and VobSub using TMPGEnc Plus. Try playing around with the VFAPI settings and just encoding a small section of the file until you get subs and sound.
