Well a week ago, I was messing around with my graphics card drivers to install an old Driver to play an old program. I have a geforce 6800ultra. Now I gave up and decided to go back to the original driver. Later I decided to burn a backup of a movie (4.3gb), then about 5 minutes into the burn, the dvd drive spits out the dvd and the burn fails. I'm using Nero 7 to burn too. I can burn stuff on dvd that are under 2gb or something. I dunno, it mightve been a freak occurance. I continue burning various things over 4 gigs or 3gigs and they all fail. I wasted a lot of dvd's fixing things. I tried reinstalling Nero, I tried updating my DVD driver, I tried restarting. None seem to work. Also, previously burn, like a day before, I used a different brand of DVD which I just so happen to use the last of. Now i'm using 4x compUSA brand. A big money saving moment. lol and its a pack of 100. I tried burning on my laptop with the same DVD and it burns succesfully. But I think it was under 3gigs. I'm going to test out burn something over 3gigs. Here is the Nero Burn log for the failed attempts. I haven't read many nero7 logs, but here goes: 1) Use the pencil/note pad on the right corner of your opening post. This is the edit icon.Use it to erase your serial # starting with 1c82-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx 2)[bold]=== Scsi-Device-Map === CdRomPeripheral : PLEXTOR DVDR PX-712A atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: On DiskPeripheral : WDC WD360GD-00FNA0 35.0 viasraid Port 2 ID 0 DMA: Off DiskPeripheral : ST3120026AS 3.18 viasraid Port 2 ID 2 DMA: Off OtherPeripheral : Promise RAID Console 1.00 fasttx2k Port 3 ID 4 DMA: Off[/bold] Your DMA's are thrown into Pio mode-no good. Especially your Harddrives. I'm unfamiliar about the RAID. Here's a guide. http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/dvdguide005.html You basically go into device manager under IDE-ATA/Atapi-locate primary controller/disable drivers/reboot. Do the same to the other controllers-1 controller at a time. 3) If you uninstall nero, chances are there's leftover remnants. Here's the Nero cleantool links. http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/Nero7_CleanTool.html Uninstall nero, run nero cleantool 7,then download nero again-leaving out the incd packets. I'd wait because I don't notice any remnants in your log. 4) Looks like the Firmware version of 1.09 is the latest, being around 9 months old. Here's a link in case there's a newer version: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1826 5) [bold]Now i'm using 4x compUSA brand.[/bold] [bold]Disc Manufacturer: AML - [/bold] Beware of store brand named media like staple's,Office max,CompUSA,etc. There's no number after AML. Office Depot's house brand is the only exception. That code should be AML-01 or AML-02 or something like that. This may be a firmware issue. The firmware may not be programmed to handle that media-which is a case with low quality media and the manufacturers not allowing their drives to burn them. Get some quality verbatim or taiyo yuden. Locally, when verbatim goes on sale at bestbuy, office max, office depot- well under 30 cents each maxxxx! Crap media can cause many headaches. Bad playback, coasters, too many coasters-then it throws your dma's out of whack. When windows gets 5 or so burn errors,it throws the DMA's into Pio mode for safety purposes. They also don't handle compression as well as quality media. Higher chance for uneven dye. Then there's the longevity factor as well and also those small PIE and PIF errors will add up causing CRC errors in case your successful backups need re-ripped later on. These low quality manufacturers: AML,UME,etc have low quality standards. If problems occuring on the end of your backups, reduce your backup target size. Max target size is 4.38 gbs. Reduce this to 4.0 gbs-let us know what programs you are using. Nero recode2 and dvd shrink are easy to change that target size. It'll increase compression, but keeps you away from the infected area that's on the outer edge of the disc-uneven dye? Drives will have a harder time with low quality media. The quality verbatim or ty will prevent a lot of issues now and later on.
