I've just seen that UPC (N*l/CHor*s)are releasing a new box next month which is a DVR. Rumour has it that the new box also has the capability to handle the Cryptoworks encryption system! Does anybody know the full story on this or maybe the model or specs of this box? Just something to think about because we all know the current situation won't last forever:(
Have to start getting our thinking caps on boys and girls!!
    Cheers - Tez-Tech.

This box was already released over a month ago and so far to a mixed reception. It is a Thompson box. Personally I would wait for the release of their HD Box, (Philips), which will have three tuners.

Regarding Crypto this like any change to encryption systems cost a lot of money and all boxes would have to be changed so we have UPC in the middle of a box upgrade and a cabling upgrade, are hardly going down that line, believe me.

That I can certainly understand, but do we know if this box uses the current card or any card for that matter??

    Cheers.

The card is married, (nothing like NDS though), where are you trying to take this?

I'm just talking about the current compromise of the Nagra1 system. Nothing sinister here, just interested in encryption systems and was wondering if the new box would make it all more secure.

    Cheers.

No problem I was just seeing wheter the topic was on the DVRs or their encryption method. I would not worry about most encryption systems barring NDS/videogaurd and I can hardly see Sly letting UPC in there.
