Hi. I was wondering if someone could tell me how to go about updating my dvd burner? I have no idea how to do this and I think I might need to because each time I burn a dvd using Nero I get alot of pixel scenes on the disc. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
perhaps it's only the discs you are using..In any case .......let's have LAST section of your Nero log which lives in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '1A21' or similar. You can differentiate sections via this section divider "====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======" If you post your log it, lists most of the information about your PC,DVD burner and the media that you are using and that lets the experts (not me) help with an opinion. @Creaky, the phraseing I used is similar to your own.Did you notice?
@attar - LMAO, a copyright light lit up above my PC, lol... for punishment you can solve the Nero log then hehe
lmao, it's about time a Nero log was cheered up a little, i've lost count of how many i've gone thru this weekend. @Matt75 - you're in good hands
You guys made me laugh - hahahas... but a good one though. Anyways, Matt75 you're in good hand, unless there is some indescribable issue that's hiding in your computer then that's another story.
Thanks for the help everyone. I hope I didn't include my serial number for the program. Unless it's in the document more than once I didn't. Here's the log............. Oops, sorry, I forgot to let you all know about my pc. The only thing I really know is that it's a gateway 310 desktop series. As for the dvd burner it's in the log. I'm not sure what kind of burner it is except it's a DVDRAM. As for the manufacturer and name I have no idea about that. I've been using Maxell media. I've never had a problem with until recently. See I haven't been using Nero very long maybe a month, even though it's been on my pc since I got it back almost 2 years ago. I usually use InstantCopy to burn my dvds but the last few times I used it it started freezing up on me so I thought I would give Nero a spin. I know there's alot of people who use Nero so I figured it must be a good program. I hope this helps you all out. That's pretty much all I know about it. Thanks again for the help and suggestions
Go here http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1628 - I think the current (the right) firmware is "A114", unless it's an OEM drive, then it's "A304".
I have a question about this firmware. I went to that page and the post read July 4, 2003. I bought my computer in December of 2003, so should I still download that? Also, how can I tell if my drive is an OEM? I just don't want to download something that could possibly destroy my system. Thanks for your help
Yes.... but the very last message at the bottom (which is the above message where I copied from that site) said; Last update: Sun Sep 25, 2005 7:46pm, and that is when they updated or found a new firmware.
@matt75 From the firmware link provided by alkohol, the firmware numbering range is: A1** or A3** Your firmware is currently A106, so you you would be looking at A114. Also one part of the log shows free memory varying from 145 down to 78MB. Maybe check for anything running on the PC that could be shut down before burning (Anti Virus, Spy sweepers, Firefox,IE,Firewall, disk defraggers, etc).
Thanks for the help everyone. I downloaded it and installed it on my C drive so I guess that's all I have to do with it? I'll try burning the disc again and let you all know how it goes =-)
Hi again. I thought I would let you all know that the pixelation is still happening. I shut down all my programs that were running before burning after restarting after installing the firmware but it's still the same thing. Anymore suggestions would really be appreciated. It seems like I have done almost everything now except try different media perhaps. Thanks again for all the help =-)
Longshot. No pixellation with original store bought movie, right? A known, good recording which was ok before, still ok? Definately a burner or software problem? Try burning with DVDdecrypter.
Thanks for the replies. Would there be a way to fix this if I am burning to close to the edge? I will try dvd decrypter and see what happens. Thanks again
yes, if you're using DVD Shrink, you set target size to 4300MB in Shrink's preferences. you only set this once. i have this set permanently to 4300MB even though i only use top notch media
*peeks in..hi all a bit behind on your updates. Might I suggest after you update the firmware and solve your memory issue that you update to the latest stable version of nero which is 6.6.0.16. Also since nero tends to use resources maybe an upgrade in memory...lets say a bump to 512mb total would be sufficient.
in addition to ALL the great suggestions, might i take a jab at the media you are using...you say you are using Maxell and THIS confirms it : THIS media however, i KNOW is the "made in taiwan" maxells, after you take care of the update for nero, update firmware to the latest, add memory/close down programs to free up more memory, change your burn size so you do not burn TOO close to the edge, might be a good idea to pick up a pack of the "made in japan" Maxells as i have PERSONALLY found these to be superior to the RicohJPN ones (that are made in taiwan); i'm not saying the RicohJPN ones are bad, far from it, BUT, the MAXELL id as well as the MXRL id on the "made in japan" maxells are BETTER~ THIS i find MIGHT be the reason for your pixellation~ while i NEVER burn anything @2.4x (ONLY on dvd+r DL media do i take it down THIS slow) like you have Matt75, on the "better" Maxell media (Made in Japan) i would suggest @4x~ (this will be available to you AFTER you do the firmware update and it is INSTALLED and updated correctly) hope that helps you out a bit, i just found this thread recently so i thought i would add YET another alternative to COMPLETELY pinpoint your issues, on top of what the others have already mentioned good luck docTY~
