I have a Sony DRU-700A housed in an exteral case and was wondering if there will be any issues with updating the firmware? Also, I see on Sony's official site that the latest firmware is VY08 and my current firmware is VY02, is it worth try to update it?
I'm not sure of updating usb external dvd-rw drives. You might have to remove it out of the external enclose and place it inside your pc to update it? I'll do some investigating for this. Your firmware has been updated 6 times. If you're not having any issues with them then you may want to leave it alone.[bold] If it ain't broke, don't fix it![/bold] I had my original benq 1620 with a B7-C9 firmware and updated it to the B7-V9 firmware. That's 19 updates inbetween and didn't have any issues before or after the update but did anyways because of the newer 16x speed media. BTW: Your sony is a rebadged lite-on so you may want to remember that. It'll come in handy in case you have a stand alone player or more that won't recognize your backups.Liteys have the ability to booktype,so goes with the rebadged liteys as well.
I have a sony dru 510A, is it a rebadged lite on as well and can I booktype with it? I saw this option in my nero or dvd decryptor, can't remember which but did not see a tab for Sony. Thanks
Snagel: Your sony is not capable of bitsetting, unless maybe there's a hacked firmware out there? Sony has some of their burners made by lite-on like the dru700/710/720/and820 which have the bitsetting capability to booktype using a special utility through lite-on. The more common drives that have this booktyping ability: Benq Plextor Lite-on/rebadged liteys like some sonys. Lg Nu-tech Ricoh Some nec and pioneers: Special hacked firmware may be in order though.
