I need help. I have a external NEC 3500A Burner. I'm trying to update the firmware to allow me to use 16X dvds. Only problem is I'm having problems finding a way to update it while using the usb cable since it is an external burner. I am very computer illiterate...I've heard about flashing...but I can't seem to find instructions on how...Any help will do...Thanks
hi, i've teleported thread to relevant forum. one (easy, depends on point of view!) solution is to take the burner out of it's enclosure and attach the actual burner itself to the pc or a.n.other pc via a standard ribbon cable, flash the firmware and put the burner back. That's what i had to do a few months ago when i had two Lite-on 1693S's that flat-out wouldn't have firmware updated by USB on two different computers. Any other burners used in these enclosures are fine being flashed over USB but i digress. Granted these are standard USB2.0 enclosures that i'd put the lite-on's into, whereas yours may be a 'proper' external burner ie the burner may not come out of the enclosure. Other than my (possibly) over troublesome way of doing this, i'm googling to see if i can find a simpler answer..
You flash your USB drive just as you would flash an internal drive, dl the file click on it and your USB drive will flash. Make sure you disconnect any other external drive you have while doing this, keep the drive you are flashing connected. Then power off the computer and the drive, if it has a power off switch when done. Then power up and reboot your computer. I have flashed my USB DVD drives many times with no problems. I have an old NEC1300a and it flashes fine. http://www.de.nec.de/softwareoverview2.php/id/1333
