Hello, I have a Dell Desktop that is pushing 4 years old. I am running Windows XP Pro with a Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz processor. I recently added two gigs of RAM (now totaling 2.5 GB) and a second hard drive for storage. However, I am still noticing performance starting to fall. Is there anything I can do to help boost performance again? Are there any components I should upgrade/Replace (IE. my boot hard drive) or is my best bet to simply reformat the drive and reinstall windows? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Tim
I don't know if it is wishfull thinking or what - but every time I reinstall OS and wipe out all the crap from years of downloading programs my system always seems to run smoother and faster. Seems like you have plenty of RAM and CPU - If reinstall OS does not get what you want then I would try a fresh HDD. I just replaced one in my 3 year old notebook just to up the size and now it runs better than new with nothing else done. Good Luck
Formatting your harddrive always helps, but if you can't do that you should at least defragment it on a regular basis.
