My only solution would be that you select the "automatically update all songs and playlists" in the prefferences.

Plug your iPod in, open iTunes, go to edit, prefferences, then click on the iPod tab and there should be a list of things that you want iTunes to do when you plug your iPod in, click on the "automatically update all songs and plalists" bubble, hit OK, and restart iTunes.

    That should fix it.

You can try to get the songs that you got from your friends iTunes off your iPod and into your library by using ephpod or sharepod, both are free and they are really good. Here is the link for the forum that tells you how to use these programs, and some other ones:http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/250743

    Hope this helps!
