Hey guys, this is my first built pc and I am looking to update it. Some of the parts are pretty terrible but i was on a budget so it works. Feel free to comment.
    Case - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129021&Tpk=antec+900
    Also have side 120mm fan

    CPU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103204

MB - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131096. Yes i know not the greatest thing out there.

    Ram - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145177 x2

    PSU - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...h+psu&lp=3&type=product&cp=1&id=1206141490850

GPU - 2x BFG 8600 GT OC 512 gddr3...couldnt find a link for it. Running in SLI
    --------------------------------------------------------------------
My new improved rig will keep the psu, case, and maybe the ram.

new GPU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814129112 possibly 2 in the future so bear in mind.

    MB - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130136
    or - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131291
please need insight on the boards which is better for crossfire and stability

    Ram - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145197

    CPU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103250
or intel if a good mobo and cpu are in comparible. Not much for OC'er but willing to try it out.

Also will be running vista 64bit so the 4gig ram will work as it should :).

Looking to keep this as cheap as possible; pref. under $800.
Any and all advice is welcome. Have some computer experience but this was my first build.

    Thanks,
    Spydr

Ditch AMD CPUs, the Intel Quad cores are much better. Get the Q6600 and and Gigabyte GA-X48-DS4. I would recommend going with the newer corsair Dominators as 2GB is getting a little low in SOME games.

Also this 4850 is cheaper and same quality.

Your PSU shall be fine, but I hope you didn't pay more than 70 bucks for it.

Fine? Fine, Abuzar? Rocketfish PSUs are terrifyingly bad. That needs to be removed IMMEDIATELY. Use this instead:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139001
Don't let the wattage rating fool you - this can easily output double what the rocketfish unit will.

Case is fine, but go with the following CPU and motherboard:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115042
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128086
The Q9450 is far faster than the Q6600, and you don't need anything anywhere near as complex as the X48-DS4 motherboard. It's worth pointing out that the Q9450 is over 40% faster than the Phenom.

The RAM you've chosen is fine.

I dont know man, I read a few reviews that said it actually WORKS at it's rated wattage. Sure it's loud and expensive, but hey as long a sit works.

Most of the reviews I've read say it will run higher than most cheap PSUs, but not as much as rated - and when it does exceed those ratings, it just melts rather than shutting down. Any PSU that does that is off my list - this is why I don't advise Hiper or Ultra PSUs any more, as they've suffered from that in the past. With manufacturers like Corsair, Enermax and Seasonic around, why would you take the risk?

Yeah but his computer wont be pulling 700W will it?

But to be sure, a 550VX is only like 70 bucks at buy.com

Thanks for the advice. Will most likely get the intel q9450 but will probably go with the Gigabyte GA-X48-DS4 as it has 2pci-e 16x that I may do crossfire in the future. Also will take Sam's advice with the PSU will get as soon as possible.

Just and FYI the rocketfish psu is a huntkey titan 650w and no i paid around $65 for the psu when I bought it.

The gpu I had selected I will buy at Best Buy because I receive a discount which is cheaper than the Asus. But thanks for looking out for me.
    Thanks for the help.

Exactly, they're abysmal brands, so don't bother with one.

Update: I have purchased the cpu, MB, and PSU. Some how I misread the PSU and ended up purchasing the 550vx, however it seems it will do the trick. Unless otherwise advised, I will be keeping it. Later this week I will get the GPU HD4850. will update after installing at a later date.

Also, I would like a decent heatsink for the cpu. Any recommendations are welcome as I have gone with them already.

    Thanks, Sam and Abuz.

The 550VX is a perfectly decent PSU. It's not dead quiet like the other Corsairs, but certainly powerful enough and reliable.

Yes I realize it won't do crossfire but for a 22" monitor I don't think the HD4850 will have any problems whatsoever. I was looking at the heatsink you provided and was wondering if I would have any problems with that in my case. I wouldn't think so since the Antec 900 is pretty damn big, but wanted clarification before I bought it.

Would it be better to go for a Thermalright ultra 120 or is that overkill?
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835109125

Assuming Newegg gets it sometime soon.

    Thanks again.

Newegg will never stock the Thermalright.

Also the Xigmatek performs almost the same as the Thermalright, and is almost half the price. The Thermalright 120 Extreme is pretty much the best air cooler out there, but it's not MUCH better. In fact some reviews put the Xigmateks performance AHEAD of the Thermalrights.

Newegg haven't stocked any thermalright products for over 18 months, I wouldn't expect much. Use NCIX US instead. - link in my signature.
The Ultra-120 isn't that much better in terms of cooling performance, but you get to choose your own fan rather than one that seems to stop working without warning (not good for a CPU heatsink!) and that obviously means you don't get any nasty noise either. Plus the installation method of the Ultra-120, whilst a little time consuming is far more secure and logical. It's just an all round 'safe bet' versus the Xigmatek, which is a little risky.
You are right in thinking an HD4850 is sufficient for a 22" monitor - it will even run Crysis pretty much maxed out at that resolution.

Well I am back to do a follow up of everything I purchased. I haven't received my shipment from newegg yet, but when I install everything I will be back to follow up with how everything works.

Here's a list of my entire computer. Let me know what you think.

    http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=8257692

Thanks Sam and Abu for the help.

P.S. - The PSU is nice and quiet compared to the old one. but now my gpu is loud but that can be fixed.

Good stuff, I notice you got the retention bracket. Good job!

Did you buy the PSU from buy.com? It's 75 there.

Yea I bought it from Buy.com good find by the way. Newegg just had everything so I just made it one link for ease. Now I am just waiting for the parts to come in and fire it up to see how nice it really is. I will be back for followup and maybe some OC questions.
