Because i messed up my xbox about a week ago (unlocked hd) i bought a new WD 160 gb hard drive, but i don't have anything backed up. Can i really just use a friends xbox to ftp the files i need and then burn those to set up the new hard drive? Or do i need the files from MY hard drive that i can't get?

if you have a backup of your EEPROM you can burn that to a disc with XBHDM and then use the locking tools to lock the hard drive back, or just get a chip :)

without YOUR EEPROM you'll need a chip. EEPROMs are console specific, just like the key to your car, the one from your friends won't crank it :)

Why spend money on ebay for something with no support and no working guide??? There is a perfectly good guide to building an eeprom reader for less than $5 right here on afterdawn..look for it!!

if its just unlocked you may be able to get a program for your computer that can read the xbox hard drive and get your eeprom from that
