Story.Havent posted in a while.I built my PC about 2 years ago.its not slow atall but would like to upgrade.theres so much new stuff out i think its time to upgrade.my specs are Proc: AMD athlon 64 3700+ 2.21 GHz Ram: x2 TWINMOS 512 MB-DDR-DIMM Graphics: Gainward NVIDIA GeForce 6600 PSU: Hyper 412W HPU-45435 HDD: 250 GB Mobo: ABIT KN8 c5c002125 I think thats everything.Im looking to upgrade the ram at least another 3-4 GB and a new graphics card.Should i upgrade the processor?? If so will it be compatible with my mobo?? Im also buying a TB HDD to replace the old 1 and maybe a smaller one to run my OS off to make it a bit faster.I usually order my stuff from komplett.ie because i live in ireland.if anybody knows a better site please let me know Any help would be much appreciated
Not enough information. We need to know what the budget is, intended use (e.g. games, HDTV, 3D modelling) and what current case you have, to see what upgrades are compatible. You will realistically need a new CPU, motherboard, power supply and RAM just to begin with.
Thank for the reply.sorry i forgot to say my budget is 500-800.i would like to run games better.I also do some sound and video editing.my monitor isnt HD so not really worryed about that yet.im thinking of buying an LG 22" LCD W2261VP-PF from komplett for 185.seems cheap enough.i have an xblade case 5¼ bays 4 Expansion slots 7 Fan mounts 3 Fans included 1 fitted to side panel (80mm) Features Extended deepth for larger motherboards, Superior ventilation design, See-through panel with tranlucent fan and grill Format ATX Uses 4 x 5.25" bay I put up a picture of it yas can look at.hope this helps
Ideally you should budget in a new case with a new PC, as such a poorly designed case for cooling may cause you issues with a powerful PC.
ok maybe i will change case.what wud u recommend?i wont be spending more dan 800.would dis be enough for new hardware and a case?
i have been looking around and can not find a case i like.anybody know any good sites for cases?? could i not add more fans or a water cooling system to my xblade case?
http://www.performance-pcs.com/ http://www.frozencpu.com/ Although last i checked there case selection was pretty much the same as newegg. Oh and tigerdirect.com may have a few different cases.
I like the NZXT Tempest what kind of PSU?i was thinking a Antec TPQ 850-EC, 850w PSU, SLI, 80Plus.150 for it on komplett.ie i was also thinking mobo: Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P, Socket-AM3 145 proc: AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition 190 ram: Corsair TWIN2X PC8500 DDR2 4GB KIT CL5 96 graphics: Sapphire Radeon HD 4890 1GB GDDR5 171 hdd: Samsung SpinPoint F1 1TB SATA2 68 should i get a second smaller drive to run the OS off? DVD drive: Sony NEC Optiarc DVD±RW burner AD-7200A, 20 Blu ray: LG Blu-Ray burner BH08LS20, 8x, 170 Sound card: Creative SB X-FI Xtreme Gamer 86 It would cost me 1096 for all that.and 185 for the new monitor.please have a look and tell me what yas think.any suggestion off anything better and is everything compatable with the mobo?
ok thanks.im open to suggestion.dont really want to go much over 1000 because im getting the new monitor for 185

I haven't included the sound card as komplett do not sell the one you listed, nor in fact do they really sell any decent sound cards, so you may want to look elsewhere for that. The same for the 1TB HDD, I have replaced the dubious Samsung with a reliable WD, but the 1TB version is not currently stocked at komplett.
Ok thanks for the reply.im going for this build Mobo: MSI P45D3 Plat.,P45,S-775,DDR3,2000FSB Proc: Intel Core™ 2 Quad Q9550 2.83GHz Socket Ram: Corsair Dominator TWIN2X PC8500 4GB DDR2 Graphics: Sapphire Radeon HD 4890 1GB GDDR5 HDD: WD Caviar® Black 750GB, 3,5", SATA DVD drive: Sony NEC Optiarc DVD±RW burner AD-7200A, 20 Blu ray: LG Blu-Ray burner BH08LS20, 8x, 170 Sound card: PSU: Corsair Powersupply 450W Modular Case: NZXT Tempest Monitor: LG 22" LCD W2261VP-PF Speakers: Logitech Z-2300 Speakers 2.1 THX Keyboard: Razer Lycosa Gaming Keyboard, Mouse: Razer NAGA MMOG Laser Gaming Mouse, Price 1500.a bit more expensive than i have but may just save more money and sell my old PC
I'm not sure who started that rumour, I see it a lot, but it has never been the case, and nor as far as I can see will it ever be the case. Build looks good. The Razer Naga mouse is ridiculously overpriced, and you will never need all its macros unless you play World of Warcraft, but it's all solid stuff there.
