Microsoft changed the way you can get service packs and security patches and such. It looks to be very intrusive and nosey. I am not that excited to have Microsoft snooping as I concider them "big brother". Does anyone know or have a link where you can just get the patches without them analysing my system?

Hmpfh! a little too late to use this link or at least until I nix my Active X. While my system is 100% paid for I still dislike Big Bro. Evil tyrants!

    DDP,
I think you have way too much fun answering questions from us mere mortals.

    Oops

    PS Thanks

what SP do you currently have? Pretty much anyone is good, as win2k is hands down the best and most stable windows OS. I would still be using it, except the god damn new apps only work on bloated XP

I have SP4. Not too concerned with the SPs as much as I look for security packs. Just seems anything by Microsoft is also a colander. Dunno why they can't splurge a little sometime and hire a real programmer to re/write an OS that isn't so vulnerable at the start.
XP just plain pisses me off I refuse to go that route. I really hate when some designer tries to dummy down or simplify the GUI.
    What apps are XP only?

well I teach audio production, so I use Pro Tools on a daily basis. (I absolutely REFUSE to use macs...I prefer real computers; its bad enough I have to put up with them at the school) and also the new versions of Avid Xpress and Adobe Premiere along with the new Photoshop are all XP only.

BTW you can always download the new SP in a bundle from microsofts website, so you then avoid going the "windows update" route where it scans your computer and all that.
