I've had this drive now for just over a month now, and it has finally buggered up! I've got half my DVD collection and all my PS2 collection succesfully backed up, and in the middle of doing a DVD in DVD shrink it encountered some error. Now the PC can no longer see the DVD burner. It has just disappeared. And to top it all off i've got a (movie) disk trapped in there. I cant find anything long and thin enough to fit in the emergency eject hole, and i cannot eject it normally coz i dont think any power is going to it as no lights are on. As you can see I have quite a predicament here. I've restarted the comp about 3 times and still nothing. At first it didn't recognize my other drive (DVD-ROM) but after the first restart that showed up again in my computer. This one however is not. I'd really appreciate any help, as I really need this fixed before the end of next week if i can. Thanks so much
So when your comptuer starts up, in the POST (where it detects your drives, which should show your hdd etc) does it show the DVD Burner there ? To use the eject on the Burner, get a Paper Clip, and bend it straight. Sounds like that possibly the power cable has come out of the back of the drive, if the power light it not turning on. If it hasnt, since its only just over a month old, take the drive back to where you bought it from and get a replacement. Most comptuer parts come with at least 6 months warranty. Regards CoZZa
Well, it seems to be working now. I turned the PC off and left it a couple hours, turned it on and there it was like it had never been away. I tried it again and it screwed up once more half way through. On restart the drive was gone again, so I had to turn it off and leave it again. Once turned on the drive was back there. I then tried doing the encoding for DVD shrink in my other drive (DVD-ROM) and I now the DVD burned and in use. So I dont know what the problem with the other drive is. Thanks for your help anyway though.
Sometimes just a simple removal of the drive in device manager and a reboot to let Windows re-install the drive will correct many problems. Worth a try. Jerry
