I built a PC with an Asus P5GD2 Deluxe Motherboard, which says it has 8 hi speed USB 2.0 ports. When I plug anything into the USB ports (Rio Karma, SanDisk Cruzer Drive, etc), I get a message that says the device would be faster if plugged into a USB 2.0 port. I go to the device manager and it shows all standard USB ports (doesn't say 2.0 or enhanced anywhere). I thought the motherboard automatically had USB 2.0. Is there something I need to update or a driver I need to install. I'm running windows XP pro. Thanks.
Chipset is Intel 915P. I thought I had SP1 and SP2 loaded. Is there an easy way to check? My windows Xp pro is set to auto-update so it should automatically DL the service packs even if I didn't install them myself.
goto to the help tab at the top of internet explorer & check the motherboard cd in drivers section for usb2
Here is what is in my device manager under USB Controllers: Intel(R) 82801FB/FBM USB Universal Host Controller - 2658 Intel(R) 82801FB/FBM USB Universal Host Controller - 2659 Intel(R) 82801FB/FBM USB Universal Host Controller - 265A Intel(R) 82801FB/FBM USB Universal Host Controller - 265B USB Root Hub USB Root Hub USB Root Hub USB Root Hub
Thurman, the drivers for your USB 2.0 are not installed. If they were, you would see one line with USB2 Enhanced Controller.
Solved.....after going crazy trying to figure out the problem with the drivers, I decided to check the BIOS....USB 2.0 was disabled. I guess the mobo ships that way because I never touched that setting. Thanks for the input.
