So I've had my computer for a few years. The time when i first got it the usb ports worked fine for putting music onto my mp3 players and other things that required the ports. I've restored my laptop a number of times since then to out of box state and now the ports don't work with any mp3 player device. I get an error message that says the device attached to the computer has malfunctioned, but when I use a mouse it works. I've tried reinstalling the usb ports and theres no "!" or red "X" next to the ports when i open device manager. Someone please help.

make sure you have all the recent updates for your system you can get them from windows updates select custom when you get there additional updates are available from your manufacturer website. if this doesn't help go to device manager find your usb devices in the component tree right click on each usb device found and select scan for hardware changes. If this doesn't help try googling the error your getting see what you get, but the solution here has worked for me.
