I need a new USB cable and headphones for my iPOD...

    http://cgi.ebay.com/Retract-USB-Cab...870816742QQcategoryZ73834QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

That auction says INSTEN - Retractable USB Hotsync Cable but it doesn't say it recharges your iPOD..what does USB Hotsync Cable exactly mean?

    Look at this other auction..

    http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-Cable-for-i...874176671QQcategoryZ79877QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

100% new high quality generic (non-OEM) USB Hotsync & Charging [2-IN-1] Cable

This one says USB Hotsync but it also says it recharges your iPOD..

    --------------------------------------

I wanted the retractable one but I need it to charge my iPOD..does this mean I have to buy the non retractable one..? What does USB Hotsync mean?

If you have a look at the product info in this link

    http://www.buynshop.com/productinfo/2416/MP3-IPODRET1/

It says that the Cable can also charge iPod when used together with a USB travel Charger Adapter or USB Car Charger Adapter. But, It makes no mention of charging VIA USB connection to the computer, so my guess is that it probably doesn't cater for that..

Hotsync is usually a term used to describe connection/data transfer between a PALM (pocket pc)/PDA and a laptop/computer. I suppose an iPod can be seen in a similar light - hence the term 'hotsync'.

So in conclusion, I reckon this retractable cable is designed mainly for data transfer, and can only charge your iPod with an adapter ;-)

    Very wise move.

I think all cables should allow for hotsyncing & charging, though.. :)
