If the DVD player can play DivX files, then burning them to a flash drive works.

You can copy the relevant VOB files from a DVD to the flash drive, but it will not play them sequentially - it plays one file and stops, then you select the next.

It is possible to take the main title from a DVD and convert it into one large mpeg file using Vob2Mpg - but flash drives come with a limitation in that the largest single file size allowed is no larger that 4GB.
