when i restart my computer with the external HD on, my system hangs at the manufacturer screen. i have to power off computer manually, power off HD and then start up computer without HD switched on. system now boots up normal, then i have to switch HD back on. does anyone have a suggestion as to how i can solve this boot up problem? i have in BIOS the systems internal HD as first boot up device but to no avail. hope someone can enlighten me.
i dont know what is on the board as i am not gonna open up the case. what i replied last time is the motherboard make and model as stated by packard bell.
What BIOS are you using? Within the CMOS you should have options pertaining to USB legacy support or words to that effect.
http://support.packardbell.com/uk/mypc/?PibItemNr=instr_bios_cooper#show Here are the screens of your bios and it shows where to enable USB Legacy support. Here is another link for the specs of your board. http://support.packardbell.com/uk/mypc/?PibItemNr=spec_cooper#show
i found the usb legacy support in south bridge config it is enabled so why does it not boot up with usb HD connected?
looks like problem solved i went into bios south bridge config and set usb legacy support to AUTO dont know if that is good but it did the trick on restart it booted up no problem
Yep, nice to see you pop back and tell us you fixed it. Stick around markya, you'll pick up lots of info here.......... And [bold]Welcome to Afterdawn[/bold] When set to 'enabled', it might have something to do with the 'lag' between the time it takes the HD to spin up and initialise but the fact that it is enabled, may mean that it works better for solid state devices such as Mouse/keyboard etc. Whereas in 'auto', it knows there is something there so holds the intialisation until the HD can spin up and register itself. (If you know what I mean)
