Hello, and thank you for looking at this thread first of all!

I have a laptop (it's a macbook but I primarily use bootcamped windows) and I do not wish to get the minidvi converter because I would like to use this product for my desktop as well as another laptop (HP touchsmart).

Neither of the laptops have any sort of hdmi out or t.v out and I was wondering what the best product would be to output the display. I would like to connect the laptop to my t.v and watch a movie on it. The movie is a blu-ray so if possible I would hope it could output at least 720p video.

Anything around the $50 price range would be optimal but I can go to $70 if need be.

Would something like this work: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...CODE=GOOGLEBASE&cm_mmc_o=VRqCjC7BBTkwCjCECjCE
    Thank you!

$105 is a tad bit out of the budget, but thanks for replying!

I think I am just going to go ahead and get the mini-dvi to hdmi adapter and just use a Y splitter for sound.

That's probably best...the unit I posted was the cheapest unit I have found any good reviews for...and it still isn't a very nice unit. A mini-dvi to HDMI converter will serve you better than any of these converter boxes or external video cards, even the super-expensive ones.

For audio, you have only two options with a macbook:
1.) Analog audio through headphone jack
2.) Digital audio through headphone jack & adapter...stereo only; 5.1 audio is downsampled to 2CH even with the digital output.

I'm not an audiophile and the sound is going to be coming out of the t.v anyways so stereo is just fine. Is there really any big difference between analog and digital sound?

I just bought a mini-dvi to hdmi cable + 6 foot HDMI cable off of ebay for $9 shipped.

I am expecting the utmost quality ;)
