    Hi,
I am thinking about getting some sort of tv tuner that I can use with both my mac laptop (OS X), and my desktop pc (WinXP). I would like to be able to record to my hard drive, reliably timeshift the tv, and preferably use a standard coax cable, composite a/v cables and/or s-video inputs. I guess I'd like something that hooks to my computer via either usb or firewire. So can anyone recomend a product that has software for both OS's? Thanks,
    Dan

Well if you want to get an external USB or Firewire Device then you should get one that uses hardware Compression....

If you are On a Budget I would maybe suggest something like the "Hauppaggue WinTV PVR USB2" , You can check it out here:

    http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/products/data_pvrusb2.html

If you are not on a Tight Budget and want the Very Best possible Quality then something like the "Canopus MpegPro EMR" which is a professinal Level hardware Mpeg-2 USB capture device...

You can check it out here:

    Cheers

Well the Capture device it"S self should come with Drivers and Software for Both PC and Mac but you should Make sure before you Purchase anything.....

In a Couple Years you will be able to use PC software on a Mac because Apple is Changeing it"s Processors and Arcitecture and will be useing Intel processors which should make them Compatible with PC software and InCompatible with Older Mac software.....

There Just isn"t a wide Variety of Software for the Mac so you Might have a hard Time Finding any Capture software that will be Compatible with the Mac and your Capture device so you might be better off captureing on your PC and then if you need to do anything with the Captured file on your Mac you could Simply transfer the File from the PC to the Mac....

    Good Luck
