Can someone please help me. I think I'm going crazy.

My friend bought me a DVD. He doesn't like piracy so he didn't want me to download the movie. So I have the original dvd. However the DVD is only in Portugese. I need english subtitltes. I downloaded them online.

How can I watch the original dvd unripped with downloaded subtitles. I want to watch it on my laptop. I tried using VLC to load the subtitles. This works when I download movies but isn't working with the original DVD.

I have tried everything I can think of for hours. Ideas???

    VLC start movie, then pause.
Video > Subtitles Track > Disable > Open File.

I tried that. When I click open file...nothing happens. That was the first thing I tried. I don't know if it's a bug in VLC or if it won't load subtitles for original dvds.

The dvd comes with spanish and portugese subtitles, but I want to watch it in English.

Is this a bug. It's not greyed out. It just doesn't do anything when I click it. I thought it might have something to do with looking at the actual dvd. So it won't allow me to open the..."Open File" menu.

Try dragging the .srt file on top of the movie when it starts playing - it works for me.

The easiest solution. I never think to drag and drop. It's more a mac solution. It worked great. Thank you!!!!

I don't know why the menu wouldn't load it. It must be a bug.
