I have noticed that in many threads some members have slipped into a bad habit of using the "quote" facility when answering a thread....all this does is add exactly what the original poster has written and I am at a loss as to why they do it. In some threads it becomes quite farceical as each and every "quote" is inserted into the thread....thus making the thread much longer than it should be.

I am not picking anyone out, but heres a sample of what I am on about...I have removed relevant names as it's only an example.

I'd appreciate some help as I am not up to speed on computers etc.
Heres what Im looking to do:
I am a football coach and I get games recorded on dvd. I want to have games analysed and am looking for software solutions to do that.
I would also like to do compilations of various extracts from different games.
What software do I need to get to do these things and also which is better for the job - a laptop or a mac?
    Thanks

I'm quite sure we all know what it does, its used in that manner because it tells the user we're speaking directly to them. Besides, it doesn't hinder the use of the thread in any sort of way. Where's the problem? I see nothing wrong with it.

'fraid when it's used badly it's as bad as that other abuse or 'severe over-use' of new features ie too many colors for text in posts, oh and over-use of bold fonts. 'fraid we're stuck with it, there's always people who over-use things, i just don't read posts by people who do these things :)

^^^^ I see quite a few like that, with no input whatsoever from the poster.

I think in most cases that is just a lack of knowledge of how to use the feature...I see only a few that abuse this feature and others such as bold, colors etc. and as I see it it's not rampant (yet) as there are only a few that do it.

Thats another problem that I am beginning to see, one member in particular uses this quite often.....maybe a mod should have a quiet word to the offending poster.

my psychic powers know who that is, and said poster will only cry foul if anything's said, so as i say, i just don't/won't read said posts; hopefully common sense will prevail (maybe that poster's just colour blind, or maybe will just eventually realise it's bad for everyone else's eyes)

Who cares....is it really that annoying with the quotes and colors?

Seems like we are just looking for something to complain about, everything is going too smooth.

Picky, picky, picky. Like creaky said, (and I didn't use quotes) if you don't like it or it offends your sensibilities, then don't read it.

    I agree with you, Loco.

^^ Is this an example of what your talking about, Gwendolin? If so, I don't see a problem with it. Excessive use of colours etc can be a pain, mind.

I agree also as i said theres little to nothing i can do in here to please certian mod/mods/members so why try

or we could have two sets of rules. rules for the members everone likes and rules for the members we don't like. come to think of it its already like that so never mind lol. why do things get so personal on the internet? most of us are guilty of it inculding me sometimes. can everyone say INDIFFERENT!! thats the point we all need to get to on the internet. good day!
