Greetings All. I am new to this site and I appreciate your help and patience here. Thank you in advance for your consideration and assistance with my question(s).

I am in the process of assembling a new PC and wondering if it would be worth the time, trouble, and expense of installing a 160 GB SSD and loading only the operating system on that device. All other programs and files would be stored across three 1.5 TB Seagate Barracudas in a RAID 5 setup.

Any value in doing this, or would it merely be a wasted, futile exercise, worth only some knowledge gain in hardware experience?

Speed would increase, but I don't know that it would be enough to be worth the trouble. For the price of a fast SSD drive, most people can get more performance with a new CPU & mainboard or a new video card and ram. If you already have top of the line everywhere else, then the SSD starts to become worthwhile.
