    hello,

i have a IDE HDD that i want to check for errors. the problem is when i connect it to the IDE it wont get recognized at all but when i connect it to my main pc it work fine till my os freeze and long story short i want to connect it to a usb adapter and check it with the vendor diagnostic tool

I want to know if the readings obtained from the usb-connected HDD using the diagnostic tool is reliable or should i find a way to connect it to ide cable???

Probably not the platters it'll be the circuitry of the hdd your having trouble with, hdd's either work without issue or they don't,when they have issues it's time to dump em

Try testing other components. Memtest86 is bootable when burned on a cd. Let it run for at least 4 passes I hear. Check windows error messages in management console. Google will tell you how to access these programs.
