I am purchasing a new powerbook 12" but would like to skip out on the superdrive because I already have a perfectly fine SONY DRU-510a in my PC. I want to buy a firewire enclosure and plug it into the mac on the few occasions where I might actually need it.

Anyone know where I can find out if this is possible, how I do it, or if it flat out cannot happen? Thanks alot!!!

I dont think that helps me beacuse I don't actually own a mac yet. I am pretty sure it will work.. I'm just hoping someone else out there has done this. I would think so!

    Thanks for the reply!

i would imagine it should work. I did the same thing...bought a 12"pb with the combo drive and just put my 8x digital research dvd-rw drive in a firewire enclosure and it worked fine on my mac. but osx can't burn a dvd you'll need toast or dvd studio to use it as a dvd burner, even just for data
