I have a dell optiplex gx280 with a dvd rom and a dvdrw philips 8631. I used to use my sony drive with B'sClip packet writing software to use cd as a floppy drive but that software doesnt work with this drive now. When I try to backup my quickbooks data file to CD and insert a cd in the drive it says "your version of DLA can read files on this disk but you will not be able to edit or add to them" it seems this software i have on here (sonic I think) does not work the same as B'sClips and I cannot use this drive as a floppy drive. Does anyone know what software can be used so this drive acts like a floppy drive? it does not seem like i can get sonic to work in that fashion.
Hi there, Dell just released a new firmware to solve issues with DLA and DVD-R Media. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/200672 Go here for URL... DLA means Direct Letter Access, and is not the same a Packet Writing (I think). Nero has InCD and Roxio has DirectCD, and I think one can't read the other. If you wish to read those, you might have to reinstall your other software. Sonic does have DLA support, it just needs to be turn on. I've heard people saying Sonic released some updates to support Dual Layer media, so grab the latest firmware for your drive, and search for Sonic updates. My 2 cents...
DLA is packet writing software, and anyone who uses it, InCd, Drag to Disc, or any other packet writing software, for permanent storage, is playing Russian Roulette. It will fail on you, folks. Packet writing software is unstable, at best. Packet writing software is good for one thing only. Transferring data from one computer to another. And if you don't do it in short order, you may find that you won't be able to do it later.
hey grandpa.. ive used b'sclips in the past and it has worked great for using a cd as a floppy drive. the problem happened when i bought a dell that didnt have a sony drive, hence, i needed new software. it doesnt work the same for XP as it did in Win98, now I have 2 steps.. one to backup the file to the cdburning folder, then two to transfer it to the cd.. its was a pleasure doing it in one easy step before, but now its two steps.. i use sonic now...(tried roxio, but i think it started causing computer probs so i uninstalled it)
