I am converting my ntsc avi digicam family videos to pal 25 fps using the latest tmpgenc, which i will then eventually add to a dvd menu creating program. the final converted file from tmpgenc works fine and is in synch with the audio, but unlike the original file, there is some slight stutter in the motion. I have definately set the input as ntsc, and the output as pal, so im not sure what i might need to do to correct it? Quality is set to high. The final files properties is definately pal 25 fps, so does anyone have any ideas on the motion problem, or is it something that cannot be fixed? thanks for any info
It's jerky because some frames are being discarded. You're going from 30 fps > 25. Did you set input and output to interlaced?
And this came from your digicam? I thought all camera-produced NTSC was 29.97 interlaced. Is the spec of your camera different? Can you spin off 10 seconds or so and post it to a file hosting site? I'll see what I can do with it. Something like this will do: http://www.savefile.com/
only on the internet using a se mobile phone (which keeps resetting!), so if i can find a program to cut part of the avi then it would have to be in a few days if i can get hold of something faster.. Lol the videos are from a camera but are not the originals, a few yrs old and been edited and re saved in multiple progs for some pointless effects! The output as xvid seems to be 23 fps, seems an odd number? I thought it was strange that such stutter would
.. occur if the final output would actually consist of more frames, but the properties of a file is always accurate i think? Perhaps the file has errors, i dont know. Laptop is in the middle of conversion, changed a few settings as the audio did not
..work in the final file, if its the same again i will try and cut some video and post it up. not sure as to why i cannot hear any sound when i have selected both audio and video to still be combined in the final output! I have changed it to seperate tracks to see if its actually recognising it. the original file plays fine audio wise though. thanks for the reply
Ps i meant to say 'i thought stutter would only occur if the final fps was LESS than before'! ..not more.. since im going from 23 to 25 fps perhaps i just need to encode to a much higher bitrate for the video? the quality i set it to in tmpgenc was high, but i can see a slight difference or blockiness aside from the stop-start motion and strange loss of sound. thanks

I think the lack of sound is possibly due to mp2 or other audio codec not installed on vista. Ive just checked all my output videos, it seems the avi is all there, but after the end of the avi there seems to be 10 to 20 mins of added extra video, just a black screen. While the avi total number of mins compares to the original, since the video seems to be all there its very odd.. Eg a 20 min original gives a 20 min new file, the file seems to be all there whilst clicking through it, but according to its timeline, the film ends at the 15 min mark or so, the credits start from there, and then for the next 5 remaining mins its just a black screen. i think i will give up now at this point. Lol!
