    Gday folks

So I know that MPEGII VOB Files can have a variable bit rate from something like 0 to 9000kbs

Is there a utility that will tell me the average bit rate used in an MPEGII vob file?

I want to be able to predict precise bit rates in transcoding so I dont get lots of loss in quality.

How does Knowing what the average Bitrate of your Mpeg-2/Vob file help you in any way when it comes to how much quality you loose when Transcodeing the VOB file to a Lower Bitrate???

If you have a VOB file that uses an average Bitrate of Say 5000kbs and you encode it to a Mpeg useing a Bitrate of 5000kbs doesn"t mean that there will not be any Quality Loss in the same way that if you encoded it useing a Bitrate of 6000kbs would not Produce better quality than the Source....

The Bitrate of the Source file has no bearing on what the Quality will be after encodeing it, It is More the Quality of the Source File and the Quality of the Encodeing and the Bitrate used to encode that will determine what the quality is after encodeing....

A Program called "Manzanita MpegID" will tell you the Bitrare of every frame in the Whole Mpeg stream.....

    Cheers
