I an new to the whole phone modding thing so bear with me on this in case i can not explain it quite right. I have been able to get the program and install it and all the drivers. I can connect my phone and P2KCommander will see it as connected. I have no problems transferring wallpaper or screensavers as they seem to work fine. It is some other things(skins/themes) that are giving me a headache. I watched a video tutorial on how to install them and followed along pausing it when needed, but mine just did not work like theirs did. 1. after i choose the P2K phone from the drop down menu on the right, and it finds and displays all the files as it should. I then go to install the skin files into the correct folders. It says that there should be an auto refresh so that after i create a folder in the skins section of the phone (a/mobile/skins) mine will not show the folder unless i press re-read button and let it go through the whole thing again, then it will show. I tried backing out to the main directory and going back in but that did not work either. same problem when i copy over the files, have to press re-read to see them. Is that normal because it takes a long time having to press re-read after every file or folder to copy/create? 2. once i finally do all this i can restart the phone, the pictures will show on the phone, the screensaver will show, i can choose it in the skin option. But it will only display the wallpaper when selected. It does not apply a whole theme. So i figure i must be missing a step or something that must be edited for them to work. I transfer over the skin, pictures, and items in the system folder(if there is one) to the corresponding folder on the phone. I was wondering if anyone has used Skins Manager 0.31 and if it was an easier way to install all this? I plan to delete the few things i transfered over tonight when i get home, if i can find them all with P2KCommander that is. any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I think that the re-read button is what is meant by refresh, it really slows down the process. You might try Bezols P2KTools or P2KMan, of the top of my head I can't say if they're any better but I usually use P2KTools for most of the things that I do, it makes loading games a snap and requires no seem edit. As far as the skins go I'm not sure as to what you mean by it not being there, most of the ones that I have seen seem to be incomplete, so some of the things that you're looking to change might not be there. I also came across one where the pics that they showed for the skin package didn't match what was there, there was a seem edit or monster pack that has to be installed to make it identical, sort of like false advertising. It could also be something as simple as misnaming one of the files, I think that you also want to restart the phone from inside the program. I haven't used the skins manager so I'm no help there. By the way, I pretty much stopped trying to help people to unlock their phones, many don't don't even realise what it does for them and that they probably don't even need to bother doing it. You'd think that if they looked a little harder they'd realize that its not as easy as posting an IMEI number and having someone give a subsidy code, it became annoying after a while. There is a thread in this forum with like 650 posts of newbies posting their IMEI's and no one getting an unlocked phone, some joker did give a fake one though and that only gave false hope to many.
thanks for the reply. I started using Skin Manager last night and must say it is the easiest, most strait forward program for loading skins that i could have ever hoped for. You just start it up, press install, choose your SKI file and it does everything else for you. It is 10X easier than P2KCommander and 30X faster. I will have to give P2KTools a try as i also have some Java games to install. I just have not decided as i think they would rarely get played. And i just use MPT to load ringtones after i make them with Wavpad As far as unlocing phones i do not know anything about it really. The only reason i know for doing this is if you have a phone that you want to use on another providers service, in order for them to use it, if they even can, the phone must be unlocked.
The only thing that I used MPT for was to install the drivers, after that I used Audacity to edit MP3s for ringtones and P2KTools to upload them. I thought that I wouldn't have much use for many games then my girlfriend dragged me out to the middle of nowhere, and I had nothing better to do and a meager selection. The thing about unlocking a phone that I never understood was if you had a SIM card for another service, wouldn't you have to pay for both if you wanted to use either at will? Unless you travel alot I can't see how it would be of any benefit to use one service over another's, especially in the US where there are only two types of service and the phone only can access one or the other. When I am finished here I'll try Skins Manager. So I tried Skins Manager and it chaneges a few things but you have to go in and reselect a new wallpaper and screen saver but it will change the way menus look and the style of the clock. You have to go to the options menu and re-select the ones that you had previously. As far as Skins Manager, it must only add part of the whole theme and the rest must be put in manually, like a wallpaper or startup animation, via P2KCommander. I'll agree, it was quite easy, but I'll have to experiment further to see what it does exactly. Speaking of experimentation, what boot loader do you have? I am wondering because mine will not allow a flash backup and I'm a little apprehensive about seem editing without it.
