Basically there is a file on my desktop that i cannot delete, it is a jpeg file. When opened there is no picture. I have tryed deleting it via safe mode but this does not work. The search feature of windows finds the file ( that doesn't delete it either.) When you right click the file there is no delte option and there is no properties option either.

Please can someone help me because this file is really annoying and i want it deleted.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Dude, this is the pc HARDWARE forum...
Have requested the mods to move this to a more appropriate forum.

Try this, if you want, save another file with the exact same file name over that file. It will replace the stubborn file with the new file, which should be easily deleted. Good luck!

    Can someone say "bullsh*t" ?
If the file is infected in some way, or locked by a hung up system application, or in use in any other way, he won't be able to replace it with a file that has the same name and extention.
That approach works about 2% of the time.

Yeh i can't rename the file then delete it either.

    Looks like it's permanent

Just throwing it out there because nobody else did...Now, back to the problem at hand: If the file can't be deleted because a program is using it, and it is a picture file with no picture, there is something fishy going on. So you say it is permanent, but I wouldn't trust it there. Open task manager and look for programs you don't recognize, ignoring system processes. Close the ones you don't recognize, and after all but system processes remain, try to delete the file.

I have had some success with hard to remove files by moving the file to a floppy then removing the floppy from the computer
