Ok folks, I,ve read through this section on how others capture their devices on the hard drive. I've gotten more confused than ever! lol. I have come across a product called the belkin video busII but am unsure if its the way to go or get a video capture card to do the work. Has anyone used this device and is it any good or would a tv tuner card? video capture combo be a better way to? go??? Incidentally what is a standard resolution acceptable for viewing fairly crisp picture quality on a tv? I am a bit confused about the belkin unit! Can anyone help before I may buy something that will dissappoint the end result of video memories. You were right, that video resolution is crap. Youe want either 720x480 or 640x480. I use a hauppauge with a build in mpeg encoder.
The "Belkin Video Buss" is a Totally Crappy Device ,You don"t want to go anywere near it even if it is Cheap and the Resolution is So low that it is only about 25% the resolution of Standard DVD.... I suggest that you get an Internal PCI Card that has a Built in Hardware Mpeg encoder Like the "Hauppague WinTV PVR-150" or the "ATI Tul Theater 550" both of which can capture your Video to your HardDrive to DVD Compliant Mpeg-2 files that you Just have to author to DVD without re-encodeing...also since it uses Hardware Compression you can do other things with your PC whicle Captureing Video without worrying about Frame Drops or Sync problems or Slowing down your System too much.... If you have to get a USB Device try the "Hauppague WinTV PVR USB" which also uses Hardware Mpeg-2 compression.... Cheers
Thanks Minion and club 42, I will have to get a capture card for my pc as you have suggested. I thought the belkin bus may be a poor alternative to an inbuilt capture card. I cant wait to be able to transfer some valuable family memories to a digital format such as DVD. Once again thanks for the information steve
