Since all of the threads on this subject are old, I thought I would start a new thread. I have ADS DVD Xpress (the old version, not the new version 2), VHS Capture hardware. I can sucessfully capture copyrighted VHS movies to transfer to DVD. However, if I copy them to hard disk, they are in mpeg2 format, and are unreadable by anything except the CapWiz program that comes with ADS's DVD Xpress. I have tried to find a program that would read the mpeg2 format to convert it to .avi (or some other format that standard DVD copy programs will read to render the dvd to disk. So far, I have not found anything. Does anyone have a suggestion. Secondly, if I use the direct to disk feature of CapWiz, it will copy the VHS to disk, but it will not create chapters, and it also wants to create a menu (with your personalized title) to the head of the dvd. Since I don't want this, I have tried to copy the files to my hard drive and convert them by the procedure listed above. Does anyone know of any software that will work with ADS's DVD xpress besides their on CapWiz program? I have downloaded the latest version of CapWiz from ADS's web site, so I am running the current version. I have also downloaded honestec's VHS to DVD which seems to do the conversion from mpeg2 to .avi for me, but the trial version will only convert 70% of the mpeg2 file. I do not wish to waste a dual layer dvd to see if it does a good job. Thanks for any help offered. Ed Wood
I got the name wrong on the program that limits conversion to 70% of the mpeg2 file to .avi. The program's name is SmartSoft Video Converter Pro. This is the one that I do not want to waste a dual layer dvd disk to see if it works well. Has anyone had any experience with this program? Thanks, Ed
Mpeg2 is the format you need in order to be able to create a DVD- you don't need to change it to anything else. You just need a DVD authoring program now.
I am new to movie stuff, but I bought ads tech dvd express, with capwiz. i am currently converting all my vhs tape to dvd. i only use capwiz to capture the movie. then i close the program after the movie is on my hard drive. then i open dvd movie factory which came with ads tech dvd express. with the movie factory i can write the mpeg files to dvd.
I've tried to convert VHS to DVD many different ways, the best solution I've found is here: VHS to DVD Guide I really hope it will be helpful, although I know it's pretty old (about 2 years since I wrote it so some programs will have newer versions etc.).
visit Convert VHS to DVD and transfer your home video tapes to dvd. You can get a pretty good conversion at a reasonable price from a lot of places. But what are most of these companies lacking? Care and attention to detail! Other ways you get totally amateurish product done with domestic equipment. link: http://www.vhs-to-dvd.com/
