I have a number of movies recorded from dvd's/VHS to VHS tape. When I go to record them to DVD the Magnavox recorder says cannot record certain movies due to protected or something along those lines.
But I had no problems when I got them onto tape originally?
I have 2-4 movies on each tape so as they record it pauses with the above mess.

Macrovision protection, installed on some commercial tapes activates the automatic gain control (AGC) in the receiving device to mess up the video.

A tape can play into a TV because the TV has no AGC - some older VCR's did not have AGC either, hence it ignored (but did not remove) the protection.

To remove the protection you must insert a 'Video Stabilizer' - connecting the 'Video Out' of the player to the 'Video IN' of the recorder.

In North America they are available on line.
I don't know if there are PAL and NTSC versions.
I do know that anyone over thirty knows someone who used one - or purchased it from Radio Shack.
