video and audio synch

    Hi, I have been having problems lately with playing back any video that i have. the video does not match the audio. Is this a codec problem or something more sinister. I downloaded the WMP 10; and still didn't help.

    Try mplayer or VLC. If they can play the files in sync then it looks like maybe your dshow filters/codecs are messed up. Have you been installing codec pack(s)?

    i have not installed codecs yet. i wanted to see if someone knew what the problem was before i started downloading things. so, i should try playing the videos in the two players you suggested? then, if that works fine, install new codecs?
