I have a TV AV Cature card, picked up on ebay for cheap... I am not getting sound to record to the mpeg file. everything seems to be working, i get sound output from the card, so I can say the input from my device out to the capture card is good. I am am using component video, I am not able to get anything to record from the cable conn or the s-video either. I have tried the stock program that came with the capture card, also pinnacle 9.0, and magixx movie edit pro 10. Am I missing something or is my capture card no good?

Have you got the cable from your audio source, to the Line In on your sound card, and have you set up your capture software to reflect this?

I am not sure of my setup. I have tried inputting sound to the capture PCI card, and have verified the cable by hooking speakers up to the capture card output. I can hear the video sound. The only input I have on my sound card is for a single chnnl mic. I have the orig software that came with the capture card, and also have just downloaded pinnacle
9.4, i have not found the sound settings, I was using another software, that showed the video sound as a wave, I am not getting the sound to record to the mpeg movie file, as when I play it back it is silent...

Sound out from the card doesn't mean much. It means the source has sound, but the cap card doesn't capture the audio, just the video, so you need a cable, from the source, to the recording device.
In most cases, a cheap cap card requires a cable from the cap card to your line in on the sound card, then set up the software to record the audio source from line in.
If your sound card doesn't have line in, try the mic port, or pick up a $10 sound card.

Yeh, I guess that would explain the 3" "jumper" that came with my capture card... I'm trying it right now with soun going to the mic jack on my sound card, I also found the sound input choices in pinnacle. I guess if this works it will be ok for backing up home movies, which was all it was intended for anyway. I will post back in a few, Thanks.

Yep, that did it, how hobo is that... my capture card has a sound input that does nothing but go back to the sound "out" plug! Anyways, it will work for me now this way. Thanks again for the response.
