I have several TV programs that have been recorded with my stand alone dvd recorder on a rw+ disk and I want to put in computer to add to other recordings. Just got computer HP8020 with media center and can't find any good directions that work. I have tried putting in dvd drive and it can't read disk. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Rick
Well if your PC Can not read the Disk then you aren"t going to get very Far.... Are you sure that you can not see any of the Files on the DVD when you Put it in your DVD Drive?? and I guess if you can Not access the Files you can not play any of them on your PC with a Software DVD Player Like PowerDVD ?? Well all I can Suggest is to Try the Disk in a Different Drive to see if the Problem is the Disk (Which it Probably Is) or a Problem with the Drive.... Since the Disk is a RW and from a DVD Recorder your PC shouldn"t have any problems accessing the Files on the DVD unless there is a Problem with the way the disk was Burned as some Drives are very Picky with the Media they will read.... Maybe Try useing a DVD-R in your DVD Recorder and see if your Drive can read that Disk....You Might try a DVD Ripping Program Like DVD Decryptor or SmartRipper and see if they can access the Disk and Rip the Contents to your HD but I doubt they will be able to read the Disk if you can not access the Files Manually..... You might also try a Data recovery program Like "BadCopy Pro" or "DVD X Rescue" and see if they can recover the Files..... If you do eventually get the Files Ripped off of the DVD to your Hard Drive you should edit them useing a Native Mpeg-2/VOB Editor Like "Womble Mpeg2VCR" because other Non-Native Mpeg editors will re-encode the Files to edit them which Takes up a Lot of Time and Greatly Reduces the Quality of the Video.... So get ahold of a Proper Mpeg-2/VOB editor and do your editing with it ans it will save you a Lot of Trouble..... After you have edited your files the way you want and you want to Put them back on to DVD then what you will need is a DVD authoring Program which will allow you to add Menu"s and Chapters to your Movie(s) and Format it all into a "Video_TS" Folder which it then burns to DVD For you....You might want to try "Tmpgenc DVD author" as it is easy to use for Makeing DVD"s and it doesn"t have a Built in encoder so it won"t re-encode your Files like some other Programs will.... I was really wondering if there isn't some way I can play it into the computer through the tunner box which has s-video,composite and component access??? The DVD plays in all of my stand alone. I ws looking for direction on how to hook it up. Is this a possibility?
Well if your Laptop has a Capture Card Built in then "Yes" you can Connect the DVD Player/Recorder up to your Laptop and Watch what is on the DVD and even record it but it would be better to just transfer the Files to yer LapTops HD and then edit the Files and reauthor them because there will be Quite a Bit of Quality Loss If you Capture from the DVD Recorder as Opposed to Just transfering the Files....
