Ok i need to know if this has to do with the video card it self or another issue. it only happens while watching a movie show etc. not when playing games. i could be playing games for hours. so im a little confused. i get this http://img340.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sspx5877id6.jpg when i close the video it shuts off completely. no sound no video but the computer is still on. i need to know what it is before i decide in sending in my card for a new one. oh by the way. these are my specs: evga 780i motherboard q6600 2.4 2 gb ram 8800gt factory overclocked 625. ive tried underclocking it with results 750 watt powersupply. i have everest checking my heat and the card never goes over 70C. while watching videos its idles at 55-59C. cpu stays at 45.
It's probably a faulty graphics card that can't handle the overclock it came with. You should return it. Out of pure curiosity, is this card an EVGA? There have been a lot of issues reported with EVGA Superclocked cards recently.
no its an xfx. ive posted the link? http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3427120&CatId=1826 could it be a driver issue or codec since it only while playing a movie and not the games?
Updating the video driver is certainly recommended. Poor codecs however, do not cause the entire screen to become corrupted, only the specific video file in the media player. This is an issue I've heard of before on XFX cards though, so you may want to speak to the manufacturer directly if you can.
