I am about to get into Video Editing. I Have currently a:
    ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe Mobo
    Athlon XP 3200+
    2GB Geil DDR2 PC3200
    Radeon 9600 XT

This machine is OOOLLLLD and IS NOT suitable for proper Video Editing.

Can anyone out there recommend a SUITABLE machine configuration for Power Editing under $1,000? Thank You.

well if your building it your self then check

    www.newegg.com

they have tons of things for cheap

but for video editing the main thing your gonna need is your Processor and RAM

and you can pick up amdX2 now for like 200bucks

even though i am not a intel fan i am told intel is better then amd's for video editing

anything thats like 3.00ghz and up for intel

and i would say anything thats like amd64 2.2ghz and up will be good

Personal experience is that AMD does actually work better for video editing. I would DEFINITELY recommend an athlon64 x2, the higher the better. Athlon 64 is BEAUTIFUL for video editing, and unless you're willing to pay for an intel P4 EE Duo, one of the best you can get, also socket 939 with preformance RAM, not socket AM2/DDR2 combo.... If you're just building the rig for video editing that's the best recommendation I can make.

thanks to all your advice I ordered an Asus A8S-X Mobo with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800, and 2GB of Geil PC3200 DDR. Will this suffice?

I have a problem. How big of a power supply do I need for this rig? Asus A8V-E SE Mobo with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800, and 2GB of Geil PC3200 DDR. ATI Radeon X1600 PRO PCI-E 512MB. I need a different power supply than my current one, as it does not have the right connectors for the Asus A8V-E SE. Someone Please help. Is there a tool available to help me calculate how pwerful of a supply I would need?
