I have a 5.0v 30gb video ipod that freezes up. After I reset it by holding the center and the menu button, the usual main menu comes up: Ipod [....]} Music...................> Photos.................> Videos..................> Extras..................> Settings...............> Shuffle Songs........> From this screen if I select anything, the screen will go black and my ipod will freeze up. It doesn't turn off, it just displays a black screen. If I let the backlight go off and then do anything with a button (push/use the click wheel), the same thing happens. When the backlight is kept on, I can continue to highlight the different words on the main menu with the scroll wheel, but that's all I can do. After the screen turns black and the ipod freezes, I can sometimes hear clicks when I use the clickwheel or push the button, but it is totally random; sometimes I can't hear it at all! When I do hear it, it usually goes away after I have pushed/used the click wheel for about 5 seconds. Can Anybody Help Me?
Try doing the "Restore to factory defaults" choice in the iPod updater program. It may be that your firmware somehow got corrupted. If this doesn't fix it, then you've got a hardware problem, which could be a big issue, requiring a return/replace/etc. from apple.
