Video Lagging Problem

My old computer in the other room is a p3 650, 256mb ram, and i just refromated it and intsalled windows xp sp1.

when i tryed to watch music clips, dvd's, avi(Divx), witch is from my new computer with my old computer throught a lan network it lags.

if i store the videos on the computer(old one) it lags evan more

i use windows media player classic and its lags alot and winodws media player 9 lags a little

does anyone know a program thats plays videos which most probly would not lag on my system

mplayer requires about the least amount of resources of any player, even more so under linux which is better suited to older hardware than XP anyway.

 

so mplayer is the lightes player possible!

should i upgrade my cpu to a p4,amd etc.

 

i recently connected the old computer to my monitor that i use for a new computer for about a day and i found out that video clip, dvds ect. run very smothly.

so i am guessing my old monitor is to slow or something, is this correct?
