I know this is a basic question, but I'm just wondering how to use higher definition settings with my xbox. It has an option to recognize 720 and 1020dpi but I don't understand how to recognize if I'm using it. My LCD TV receives HDMI(high def cables) but I don't know of anything beyond component cables for the xbox, can you get a 720 connection with that, and when would use the 1020 setting? Confusing, just wondering... Sincerely,
Only XBMC makes full use of the 720p and 1080i. You can only use component and they work fine, I use the same thing! You'll know when it's in high def because the main XBMC screen will be like glass, really crisp and clear picture.
So just to make sure I understand what you're saying. I connect with component cables and set the resolution to 720p or 1080i (what if I check them all that is, 480 720p and 1080i?) Next question would be, do the xbox games use 720p and 1080i? I would assume for movies I would have to play AVI at a resolution of 720p or 1080i cause xbox doesn't play HD dvds? Is that correct? there are several games in high def. Justice league heros is awesome in high def. It looks better than madden 06 on 360 does.
ok, I tried changing the resolution settings to 720p and 1080i and even tried the SCREEN settings respectively instead of leaving it to AUTO, and all I get is this blurry effect, in blurry I mean, like a weaker effect of a 3D movie without wearing the glasses (although I can tell the pixel resolution does change to 720p or 1080i but the effect is of course undesirable in my opinion. But that still doesn't really answer my question about why the xbox would be able to support other resolutions if it doesn't produce desirable results. Maybe I should be changing the settings in MS DASH? From what I can see, I can either change it in MS DASH, in Xecuter's DASH or XBMC's DASH. So far I've only tried it in XBMC with unsatisfactory results. Can anyone clarify? Sincerely,
You need to enable the HD settings in the MS Dash first. If you then move on to XBMC, you can use those settings too. DVDs will ALWAYS be in 480. Unless the AVI files you have are the larger 720 ones, they will also be in 480, but XBMC can upgrade the resolution itself! Maybe your TV doesn't support the settings you are picking? What capabilities does it have? Honestly, My Panasonic Viera 50" Plasma loves XBMC in both 720p + 1080i
This is the information that I found that I thought might help me solve my resolution issues. I have a Hitachi 62" LCD RP, it's not even a year old, and it has three inputs that accept component and two that accepts HDMI. I have changed my video resolution in MS DASH and I am seeing a change in XBMC but with undesirable blurriness, like a mild version of watching a 3D movie without wearing the 3D glasses. It's like everything is superimposed two to three times. That's the best way I know how to explain it. I have changed my video modes in Xecuter DASH to NTSC U, there's also NTSC J which I've tried and didn't get any difference. I am curious of the idea about video mode switcher, but don't why I would need that, I bought my xbox from the US through EBAY so I suppose it should be a NTSC Xbox. How do I find this out. In any case, I've been working at this resolution thing for a while now, and I just can't seem to get it to work. It would be sweet if I could though. Any more help out there would be welcomed. 62"!!! Wow! That's outrageously huge! Are you sure that's what you have, especially given it's an LCD... Ok how are you connecting your Xbox? You need one of these... You will also need Component connections! What build are you using for XBMC?
I have the exact HD AV pack as shown. I have component cables as well, all hooked up properly. My TV is a Hitachi 62VS69A with 720p and 1080i component support. Here's some pics to show what settings I'm using and any other information that might be usefull. It's very interesting to see that the pics don't show up blurry (superimposed) p.s. My XBMC version is pre. 2.1 compiled August 2007
Yikes, your screenshots are way too big, I'd probably delete them! Your systems is in 720p It doesn't seem blurry, in fact it looks great!?
