is there a way that you can compress a video and still burn it a dvd-r so that it won't take as much room?

Yes. DVD Shrink and DVD2ONE seem to be the applications of choice. Nero 6 is a great burning application but there are others. Ask a few more questions and you too will be be a DVD copying...er,..backup'ing fool! :)

DVD Shrink is free. Give it a whirl.

If you mean AVI, MPEG or other forms of video ask and be more specific.

    Happy trails-
