I'm using mactheripper, DVDRemaster, and the newest
version of toast. After ripping and recompression, the
VIDEO_TS folder will play on my computer, but when I burn it
to a RITEK DVD-R It no longer plays relialbly, skipping and
freezing to the point that the DVD is unwatchable. I've
successfully backed up numeruos DVDs with my set-up
before doing exactly the same as I'm doing now, it just won't
work with this movie (Akira). I tried re-decrypting and re-
compressing it from the original DVD and this didn't work
either. Another strange thing, when I do it the long way,
(using DVD Imager and then burning the resulting .IMG file
with disk utility) it plays just fine. So why does a copy of toast
that will succesfully burn other DVDs fail with this one? Any
    suggestions?

I was going to suggest you to try and burn it using Disk Utility but I can see you have edited your original post to say you have just done it. I thought it had to be something about the burning.

What settings were you using with Toast? Have you realized that the newest version has a setting to burn DVD-Video from VIDEO_TS folders in the Video section? Any other than that I have no idea why you had those problems. Contacting Roxio for technical support on this may be a good idea.

PS. Are you happy with the Ritek media? Are they playing in all your players?

Also regarding your question about how to keep your HD tidy you can read this Apple document.

I didn't know that about the newest version of toast. Thanks. The Ritek media is hands down, the best that I've found, thank you so much for the advice, without it, I'd still be on square one!
