Hi to everyone, Have been looking around on the internet and came across this forum in my search, looks a really good site and glad to have joined up. I am moving house next weekend, the house i am going to has a little white box on the wall marked as virgin media. Does anybody know whether this is an internet box, or for tv signal? It is in place where you would expect the last tenant to have had a tv setup but i wasn't 100% sure. It had a tiny cable coming from it, only a couple of inches going to a splitter. And thats it. Anyone know what it will be? As most of you will have already guessed, i want to get a box setup so that i can receive all the channels without paying all that money! So im thinking if cable is already installed, i might just be able to buy a box, and plug it straight in. Although i remember reading, that its better to have a splitter, with a legitimate box running, aswell as a 'chipped' box so that they dont find out? As far as i know, original virgin boxes send a signal back to virgin so they know it is being used, so if somebody is to take out minimum subscription, then never use that original box, they know something is going on. Thats how it used to be years ago when i did it, or thats what i was told. Also, my mate paid somebody to come out and do this for him, they guarenteed it to work for 12 months, hes had it 3 months but now he is getting a warning on his tv, a message popping up saying are you getting something for free that stays on for a few minutes so he told me to be careful because he seems to think they might be stopping people from doing it altogether soon. Does anybody know about this? Im in the manchester area. Thanks, if anybody can help me with any advice it will be appreciated. Mike
Hey Mike welcome to Afterdawn, the white box on the wall is more than likely a tv connection, a splitter was prob used to simply split the signal between 2 tv or boxes, your best choice of box is Kryptview 780 you will also need broadband, plug a cable from the box on the wall to the back of your tv, if you get a few basic stations you will have a live feed and dont need to contact vermin. P.S. dont pay anyone as you will get all the help you need on this site, and pay no attention to that warning.
Thanks dave. So when i move in on saturday ill have to contact virgin first i think to arrange taking out a broadband deal with them? Might sound stupid, but how do i go about connecting the cable from box to the back of my tv? I dont think it will plug straight into my tv. Can i plug that virgin media cable into a freeview box to test it? Thanks! So nobody has heard anything about them ALL being cut off? A few people have tried to put me off, saying it wont work anymore in 2 weeks time after virgin have done this thing they are doing to stop them all working.
I suggest you read the Kryptview A780 threads, this has been covered in detail for the last few months, this is the only box worth getting at present for cable, in the threads you will find all you need about how they work, connected and what you need to do.
